TULSA, Okla. — UPDATE 5/18/2022 1 p.m.: Tulsa police said they have William Parnell in custody. Parnell is accused of following a young girl to her home, and later breaking into her house and stealing things.
According to Tulsa police, Parnell falls under McGirt. Police are working with federal authorities and asking that he is charged with 2 counts of burglary.
Police are also seeking an assault charge for assaulting a medical professional, according to a statement from police.
Tulsa police are searching for a man accused of breaking into homes, stealing and following young girls.
Security cameras captured a man ringing a doorbell at a home near 81st and Harvard. The homeowner, Jennifer Henderson, says the man followed her 11-year-old daughter, Riley, when she got off the bus.
Tulsa Police Burglary Lt. Tim Means told FOX23 this wasn’t the only girl.
Investigators spoke to another homeowner who said the same man followed his daughter home and asked to use the restroom. He wasn’t let inside.
“Come to find out later, we get a description of the individual that followed them and ... it’s the same individual who followed at least two different girls home,” Means said.
He wasn’t let inside.
Three days later, Riley spotted the man peeking into her home.
“I see something black in my backyard,” Riley recalled to FOX23.
She thought it was a worker at first, but she eventually realized who it was.
“Wait, that’s probably him,” Riley recalled thinking to herself. “Because he knows I’m home alone at that time, and nobody was there. He saw no cars so he took the chance to try and break in.”
Riley said the man wore a ski mask.
She ran from her house and told neighbors to call the police. There, she could see her own backyard.
“I caught the guy sneaking out of our back fence. And that was when I started shaking and crying more,” she said.
Police said the man broke the back door and went inside the Henderson home.
“[Officers] locate a broken [sliding glass door window] the suspect had made entry into the residence, went into a dresser, went through some things and stole the gun ultimately from the house,” Means said.
Jennifer says the man also stole underwear.
“It’s something that’s actually very frightening,” Means said. “It should scare you as a parent that these kind of people are out there doing this.”
Investigators believe the man seen in the security footage is connected to all of the crimes.
If you have any information, call Tulsa Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
“We don’t know what his intentions may have been. We don’t know if it’s just a burglary or saw a young girl and thought it’d be an easy target,” Means said.
