Sapulpa cancels upcoming football game against Claremore due to positive COVID-19 cases

SAPULPA, Okla. — Sapulpa Public Schools canceled their upcoming football game against Claremore High School due to COVID-19 after multiple cases of COVID-19 in the program, the district announced Thursday.

The district says three positive cases of the virus in the Chieftans football program were confirmed within the last 24 hours.

At least 10 members of the team were identified as close contacts and those students and coaches have been told to quarantine immediately.

“While we share in the disappointment in the cancelation, the decision to cancel is not one that we take lightly,” the district said in a statement.

“The health and safety of our students and staff have always been and will continue to be our top priority.”

Those who bought tickets to the game will get refunds.
