Police investigate drowning involving ATV at Appalachia Bay

Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigates an ATV accident along Keystone Lake at Appalachia Bay that leaves one dead on Sunday, May 24, 2020.

KEYSTONE LAKE, Okla. — One person is dead after an all-terrain vehicle accident at along Keystone Lake at Appalachia Bay, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Officials say four people were riding in an ATV around 5:40 p.m. when it got too close to the water an overturned into Keystone Lake.

Officials say the ATV driver 37-year-old, father of four, Manuel Gomez of Broken Arrow was pronounced dead after being submerged in the water too long.

OHP said a nearby witness was able to free two riders by cutting their seat belts. A third passenger reportedly received minor injuries but refused treatment.

Family and friends set up a Gofundme page to support Gomez’s wife and children.

Police say they are looking for two additional males who fled the scene of the accident.
