OKLAHOMA CITY — Parents are expected to protest at the Capitol in Oklahoma City on Monday to speak out against school closures in their communities.
Organizers say they are looking to “demand a greater voice and role in education” as schools move back and forth between in-person and virtual learning due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Several Green Country school districts shifted to distance learning ahead of Thanksgiving break as coronavirus cases, deaths and hospitalizations spiked quickly in November.
“Virtual learning is not the answer for my family,” said one Deer Creek parent in a press release by rally organizers.
“It is not healthy or productive for my children. It is not logistically feasible for me as a working parent.
The rally is expected to start at 11 a.m.
