OU student from Broken Arrow looking to break sound barrier with drone

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — A Broken Arrow native, and OU Aerospace Engineering student, is launching a global team of engineers to build a supersonic drone.

The goal is to be the first-ever students to break through the sound barrier using a drone.

The drone being built will be 6 feet long, about 50 pounds, and fly 760 mph.

They hope to have it built and flying by summer of 2021. By December 2021, they hope to break the sound barrier.

If successful, “Project Boom” could break a record, putting them in the Guinness Book of World Records.

At the end of September, Project Boom is launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to build the drone. Their goal is to raise $20,000. Anyone looking to donate can do so here.
