TULSA, Okla. — The Gibbs Shopping Center near 46th Street North and Peoria is hoping to bring more business to the once-booming shopping area.

Tracy Gibbs and her husband have owned the property for five years, which once belonged to her husband’s grandparents, Leroy and Ernestine Gibbs.

After the original owners passed away the property was sold and fell into disrepair. Now the next generation of Gibbs is revitalizing the space.

They unveiled their newest tenant Wednesday; “Still She Rises,” an indigent defense law firm that represents mothers in the court system.

Still She Rises, with backing from the George Kaiser Family Foundation and other donors, is doing more than $1 million worth of renovation on their new, bigger space.

The owners say they hope this new construction will encourage other people to open up shop in the area.

The original Gibbs Shopping Center housed a grocery store, laundromat, candy shop and several other businesses that the community relied on. The owners hope it will once again be a staple in the community.

The new office for Still She Rises is expected to open up in January 2021.
