Man takes ‘Trump Unity Bridge’ float on joy ride in east Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — A bizarre night in east Tulsa landed one man in jail after police say he stole a political float.

It happened around midnight near 31st Street and South Memorial.

Police say the owner of a “Trump Unity Bridge” was checking into a motel when the suspect stole his truck with the float attached.

Police say the suspect was driving erratically, running over branches and road signs.

Rob Cortis and his friend Jason Bright chased after the trailer before the suspect got out of the truck and ran.

“One of our girls came screaming ‘They stole the unity bridge! They stole the Trump Unity Bridge!’” Cortis said. “So, I ran outside. I say, where’s it at? It’s gone.”

Police quickly arrested the suspect but at some point, during the end of the pursuit, someone fired shots.

Police didn’t know where they came from, but no one was hurt.

“Stop the hate, just stop the hate,” Bright said. “It’s senseless, it’s ridiculous, and we’ll bounce back.”
