TULSA, Okla. — Muskogee police say John Martin, 77, has died today from gunshot wounds he received after a man broke into his home last week.

Officers say they are searching for a suspect who forced his way through Martin’s locked front door on Sept. 15, and demanded money.

It happened around 8 a.m. near the 2200 block of Monta Avenue in Muskogee, police said.

Martin reportedly told the suspect that he didn’t have any money.

Police said before Martin could reach for his gun, the suspect had shot him multiple times and then ran away from the scene.

Martin was awake and talking when officers arrived on scene, before he was taken to a Tulsa hospital.
