Man shot in leg during confrontation with woman in Broken Arrow

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Broken Arrow police have arrested a man they say assaulted a woman shortly after being released from jail.

On Tuesday police say they responded to a reported shooting on S Sycamore St. When they arrived they say they found Austin Rawlings with a gunshot wound to his leg. They say Rawlings’s girlfriend was also there and had injuries consistent with having been physically assaulted.

Rawlings girlfriend told police that he had just been released from jail when he came into her home through a back window. She says she allowed him to stay, but that they started arguing. That argument, police say, escalated and Rawlings pushed and strangled the victim before a gun fell from his waistband to the floor. Police say both Rawlings and his girlfriend reached for the gun and it fired, hitting Rawlings in the leg.

Rawlings was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.  Rawlings was arrested for Domestic Assault by Strangulation and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.
