TULSA, Okla. — A man accused of firing the shots that killed a 4-year-old boy in Kansas City, Missouri in late June has been arrested in Tulsa.
Kansas City police and the FBI arrested Ryson Ellis on Thursday.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s office says Ellis fired shots into the apartment where 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro was sleeping -- hitting and killing him.
The bullets went through a privacy fence and a glass door before hitting the boy, authorities say.
Prosecutors filed Second-Degree Murder charges against Ellis last week. Ellis is also charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.
Police say they believe Ellis knows Taliferro’s father who they say he had an argument a few days prior to the shooting.
Court records show a witness with Ellis at the time of the shooting said she drove him to the apartment complex that night. She heard several shots after he got out of the car. She also drove him away from the apartment complex after the shooting, but she told police she didn’t know anyone was hurt at the time.
FOX23 has contacted the Kansas City Police Department to learn more about the investigation and any ties Ellis has to Tulsa, including where in Tulsa he was arrested. We are waiting to hear back.
Ellis is in the Tulsa County Jail being held without bond and is awaiting extradition.
