TULSA, Okla. — A local organization is looking to help get support for foster children for the holiday season.
Fostering Joy is the annual gift program sponsored by Fostering Connections which provides Christmas gifts to thousands of foster children in Green Country.
The organization helps improve the lives of abused and neglected children across the area by providing resources and building community.
Normally they provide gifts for about 1,400 childen but the coronavirus pandemic brought along increased need as they’re working to provide gifts for 2,500 children this year.
Fostering Connections is helping Tulsa foster kids as well as foster children in Okmulgee, Muskogee and Comanche counties.
The organization says the pandemic has slowed their incoming gifts so far, so they’re reaching out to the community for help.
“A lot of these kiddos come from very very hard places that us as adults cannot even imagine and don’t want to process," said foster mother Jill Hobbs.
“When they come into our home and they can just feel safe. That’s all they’re looking for.”
People can help in three ways: monetary donations, sponsoring a child’s wishlist or buying a gift from Fostering Connections' Target Wish List.
