GLENPOOL, Okla. — Glenpool VFW Post 1327 closed in December of 2018 due to a lack of members and the post was disbanded.
In June, it was reinstated as VFW Post 9126.
On Sunday a grand opening celebration happened at Black and Gold Park.
Breezy Hopper and Kati Kinsfather spearheaded getting the post back in Glenpool. They’re spouses of local veterans.
They started a petition to save the war cannon and missile on display at the park and to get the post back.
“People don’t realize these small towns has 100′s of veterans with no one to turn to. We want to be those people, that organization that we’ll go get your groceries, when storms hit, we’ll check on you,” said Post Quarter Master Jeremy Johnson.
Post 9126 serves vets from five communities.
The original post was disbanded after a decline in members. Johnson says members either passed away or had moved out of town.
Post 9126 has currently, 27 members.
