TULSA, Okla. - Gander Mountain opened its first Tulsa store Thursday in the Tulsa Hills Shopping Center.
“It’s a lovely store. It’s really good for Tulsa and I’m excited about it,” said shopper Karla Sexton.
The retail chain for outdoor equipment could have been built in Oklahoma City, but a spokesperson for the store said it chose Tulsa because of how much people here love the outdoors.
Gander Mountain is the first store to open in the Walk at Tulsa Hills; other stores, like Aldi, are set to open in the spring and early summer.
“It’s starting to grow for the young people and young families to move in,” Sexton said.

The $32.5 million development at the Walk at Tulsa Hills will also bring in a Carmike Cinema, Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant and a Mathis Brothers Sleep Center.
