Former Sand Springs mayor passes away

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — The city of Sand Springs is mourning the loss of former Mayor Artie Palk.

The city posted to Facebook, saying Mayor Palk moved to Sand Springs in 1961. He worked for Bank One of Tulsa as Vice President and retired after 42 years.

The city says Mayor Palk served on the Sand Springs City Council and Municipal Authority for eight years, five of those as Mayor and Chairman.

Sand Springs adds, “Mayor Palk was awarded the 2006 John M. Hess Municipal Award for Outstanding Citizenship. He will always be remembered for his humbleness, which is contrasted by the fact that our community will forever be in his debt for his dedication to duty in the service of his fellow citizens of Sand Springs. Rest in Peace, Mayor Palk.”
