First phase of vaccinations for TPS staff members begin

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Public Schools teachers and staff 65 and older are getting their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

TPS is partnering with the Tulsa Health Department to offer the COVID-19 vaccinations to nurses, health care assistants, and team members age 65 and older, said TPS Spokesperson Lauren Partain.

Virtual Academy teacher Judith Ide, 71, showed up early to get in line for the vaccine Wednesday and said she couldn’t wait.

“I am so thankful that I will not only be protecting myself and my immediate family, but anyone I can come in contact with,” said Ide.

Ide is one of about 500 TPS employees eligible right now to get the vaccine. Ide has been with TPS since 2013.

Teachers in line to get the vaccine tell FOX23 even though they’ll still wash their hands and wear masks, getting the vaccine gives them peace of mind.
