The State of Oklahoma has announced an execution date for Julius Jones, just one week after the Oklahoma Board of Pardons and Paroles recommended commutation to life in prison.
Jones is scheduled to be executed on Nov. 18, 2021.
Execution dates for six other death row inmates were also announced.
Rev. Cece Jones-Davis, a leader of the “Justice for Julius” movement has issued the following statement:
“The court’s setting of an execution date underscores the stakes and the urgency involved with Julius Jones’ commutation application. After a thorough review and a multiple hour hearing, the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board voted 3 to 1 to commute Julius’s sentence to life. We urge Governor Stitt to review the application in a timely manner and bring long-averted justice to this very tragic situation by accepting the recommendation of the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board.”
Kim Kardashian tweeted her reaction to Jones’ execution date being set on Monday afternoon.
“Julius Jones was just given an execution date of Nov 18th despite the Pardon & Parole Board recommending his sentence be commuted,” she wrote on Twitter.
She continued, urging her followers to contact Gov. Stitt and ask him to “save [Jones’] life.”
