TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa’s first Tesla service center is now open in south Tulsa near East 61st Street and South 129th East Avenue.
While Tesla may have chosen Austin, Texas as the site for its new factory over Tulsa, it appears they weren’t done with Tulsa by any means.
FOX23 stopped by the building Monday to see what exactly was going on inside the building that now has Tesla logos and large letters on the side.
A mechanic said off-camera that right now the location is just doing maintenance on Teslas already owned in the Tulsa metro area, and he said he didn’t know of any firm plans for a showroom. FOX23 was told, “you can’t buy a car here, at least, not yet” the unidentified employee said.
It appears Telsa is renting the building. A check of county property records show it belongs to Industrial Developers of Oklahoma 4 LLC, and they have owned the building since 2017.
The nearest Tesla dealership where cars can be purchased is still in Dallas, Texas.
Right now there are three cars sitting in the front parking lot for you to get a look at and even take for a test drive. Because Tesla is not licensed to sell electric vehicles in the State of Oklahoma yet, if you like it, you will be directed to place an order either online or with the help of a sales associate.
FOX23 reached out to Tesla for a formal comment but has not received one back yet.
The operation for a service center and showroom were only approved in the last few months, and Telsa settled in to their new Tulsa location quickly sometime this fall.
There is no indication when the Tulsa location could sell Tesla vehicles, but in the showroom inside, there is a sign encouraging people to touch, feel, and interact with the cars so they can feel confident about their purchase. However, all FOX23 found were Teslas already purchased by Oklahomans coming in for service and none actually for sale at the moment.
