SEATTLE, Wash. — Pearl Jam announced Monday the band will postpone the spring leg of its 2020 “Gigaton” tour due to concerns over the spreading coronavirus.
The tour includes a stop in Oklahoma City scheduled for April 6. A new date has not been announced.
The band postponed 17 shows, according to Pearl Jam’s website. The tour is expected to restart June 23 in Germany.
“As residents of the city of Seattle, we’ve been hit hard and have witnessed firsthand how quickly these disastrous situations can escalate. Our kids’ schools have closed along with universities and businesses. It’s been brutal and it’s gonna get worse before it gets better,” the band wrote online.
There are currently 136 cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) reported in Washington state, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The virus has made its way to 35 states and there are 423 confirmed cases nationwide.
“We’ve worked hard with all our management and business associates to find other solutions or options but the levels of risk to our audience and their communities is simply too high for our comfort level,” Pearl Jam said.
