Broken Arrow police surprise man after his bike was stolen

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Broken Arrow officers made sure one man had everything he needed after his bike was stolen the week before.

Monday, FOX23 went with officers to surprise Rusty Welch with a brand new bike. Welch has special needs and lives with physical challenges. BAPD says he used his bike as his primary form of transportation.

“It means a lot to me to get back and forth to work. It makes me a lot more independent,” Welch said.

Broken Arrow Police say stolen bikes are rarely returned to their owners. Officers pitched in their own money and were able to partner with Walmart to get Welch a new bike and helmet.

“We are thankful for Walmart, and we were able to go give this guy a bicycle and get him back to what he wants to do,” Officer John Klecka explained.

Welch thanked officers several times for replacing his bike and what they do for the community.
