Body recovered from Fort Gibson Lake identified as missing woman from Sunday

WAGONER COUNTY, Okla. — Police have identified the body recovered from Whitehorn Cove Marina on Fort Gibson Lake Tuesday afternoon as 48-year-old Krista Renee Smith of Wagoner.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol say Smith is the woman who was reported missing on Sunday from a pontoon boat.

Tonya Broyles with the Whitehorn Fire and Rescue initially said at the beginning of the investigation that a woman, now identified as Smith, went missing Sunday evening, possibly connected to a pontoon boating accident.

The body was reportedly found without a life jacket this morning around 11:30 a.m. in about 6-8 feet of water offshore in a wooded area. Broyles says the body was later recovered just after 2 p.m.

OHP, Whitehorn Fire and Rescue and the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office are all involved in the investigation.

The body was identified by a medical examiner.
