After the announcement last week from Bixby Public Schools Superintendent Rob Miller, Monday marks the first day that elementary teachers will be able to set their own rules for masks in their classrooms.
In a letter to parents, Miller said the district is allowing teachers in those grades to set their own mask guidelines. The letter went on to say, “teachers know best how to safely and effectively manage their classroom environment”.
The district is only doing this for the elementary grades due to case counts being lower for those age groups.
Masks will still be required while riding on the school bus, during arrival/dismissal and other times of the day when social distancing is not possible.
Miller did state in the letter the district will continue to keep an eye on COVID levels and trends to make any future decisions about their mask policy.
