Bartlesville mom shares story after giving birth on side of highway

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (KOKI) — A Bartlesville mom gave birth to her daughter on the side of Highway 75 last week.

Louralee Long had a little but of unusual entrance into this world.

On July 19, around 2:30 a.m. her mom, Audrey Long, said her water broke. They were on the way to the hospital, but Long’s contractions were coming fast.

On Highway 75, near the casino in Ramona, Louralee decided she wasn’t waiting for the hospital.

Audrey says, “We’re going to have to pull over. By the time we pulled over, her head was already out.”

Dad, Jaymz Long, stepped up to help. He says, “She said I have to push, and I looked down and there was a purple head looking at me, and I said no wonder you have to push…. She pushed one more time, and I helped her a little bit, and she slid right into my hand. The umbilical cord was wrapped around. It was a sight.”

Jaymz got to help deliver his baby and tell his wife what the gender was.

Then… he passed out.

Sister Megan White says, “I looked over, and he was passed out in the ditch all spread out. It was hilarious, but we of course wanted to make sure he was okay. We just wanted everyone to be okay.”

The family eventually made it to the hospital, where they were able to cut the umbilical cord.

The family is now back home and happy!

Louralee was born around 20 minutes after her mom’s water broke.
