MUSKOGEE, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Muskogee police, and the Muskogee district attorney announced an arrest Tuesday in a series of rape cases from the 1990s.
Authorities connected Leroy Jemol Smith to multiple rape cases in the area from Jan. 1993 to Oct. 1995.
Smith is facing five counts of first-degree rape from the following dates:
- Jan. 20, 1993
- Feb. 3, 1993
- July 16, 1993
- Oct. 10, 1994
- Oct. 3, 1995
Multiple tests pointed to Smith as the person responsible, court documents say.
Tulsa police had a sample of Smith’s DNA from a separate case he was acquitted of and that sample that documents say helped connect him to the crimes.
