OKEMAH, Okla. — Okemah Public Schools said Tuesday that a third grade student brought a gun to school.
School administrators found the gun in a backpack upon investigating a report that the student may have a gun.
Law enforcement officers were called in to take the gun and student into custody. District officials do not believe anyone was in danger at this point in the investigation.
Parents are strongly urged by the district to check backpacks regularly before their children go to school. It is also important to talk to children about how and why they should report anything that seems suspicious.
