Kendall Whitter façade grant opens Feb. 1

TULSA, Okla. — Applications open next week for the Kendall Whittier Façade Grant, an annual program that supports the ongoing revitalization of the Kendall Whittier commercial corridors, according to a press release.

The program, presented by Kendall Whittier Main Street and underwritten by George Kaiser Family Foundation, offers dollar-for-dollar matching grants of up to $3,000 and up to $1,000.

“The goal of the program is to help support property owners in their efforts to restore their historic properties and improve the exteriors in Kendall Whittier,” said Jessica Jackson Seay, executive director of KWMS.

Any commercial property in Kendall Whittier is eligible to apply. Eligible improvements include, but are not limited to, masonry repair, window or door repair/replacement, transom repair/replacement, replacement of architectural details, awnings, lighting, signage and public art.

An eligible façade is defined as an individual storefront or side of a building that faces a public street. Separate addresses within a single building may qualify as separate façades.

Façade Grant applications are due Feb. 28 by 11:59 p.m. and can be submitted online, by email, mailed or delivered in person. Applications that are mailed should be postmarked Feb. 28.

This year, the grant application will also be offered in Spanish. The Spanish application will be available the first week of February.

“It is important to us to ensure this year that the application is inclusive and allows a variety of business and property owners to apply,” Jackson Seay said. “It would be heartbreaking to know that someone did not apply simply because English is not their native language.”

The Façade Grant Program is competitive. Due to limited funds, not every applicant with an eligible project may be awarded. The grant committee recommends applicants be as thorough as possible when filling out the application.

Those awarded will be notified by the end of March. Projects can not begin prior to grant notification, and projects must be completed – and receipts submitted for reimbursement – by Dec. 9, 2022.
