How the Ready Set Summer program helps kids prepare for next year

TULSA, Okla. — It might be summer for Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) students, but they are back in the classroom taking advantage of the “Ready. Set. Summer!” program.

More than 8,000 students are enrolled in summer programs at TPS. Students receive transportation, break and lunch, free of charge.

The “Ready. Set. Summer!” program is focused on student learning through fun, engaging and hands-on experiences.

A teacher at McKinley Elementary said the program helps students prepare for the next year.

“Many of us are able to get our own kids back that we had this year, so anything that we did not get to do with them this school year, ya know, having that second chance to, ya know, okay, lemme give you that extra little push,” said McCarty-Smith.

Summer programs will run until July 29 at 21 school sites across the city.
