WAGONER, Okla. — Wagoner Public Schools (WPS) said a gun was found in a Wagoner Middle School student's backpack on Thursday.
WPS said the middle school principal received a report a student may have a weapon in his backpack.
The school resource officer located the student and took him to the school office. In the office, a gun was found in the student's backpack.
WPS said student privacy laws prohibit additional information to be shared but school administration and law enforcement are addressing the matter.
The school released a statement that says in part:
"There is nothing more important to Wagoner Public Schools than the safety, health and well-being of our students and staff. We are grateful to those who reported their concerns to administrators out of concern for the safety of their fellow classmates. If you have any questions, please contact the school office for assistance"
