Group of Tulsa women graduate from Tulsa recovery program


  • Thursday evening, 18 women graduated from the Family and Children Services Women in Recovery (WIR) program.
  • It comes as the WIR celebrates a decade of service in Tulsa County. They offer an alternative for women facing incarceration often for drug related offenses.
  • The group says 481 women have graduated from WIR since 2009. Participants are able to take part in intensive treatment, job skill training, health and wellness services and parent child reunification. The program has been able to help and impact 1,729 children
  • Chief Program Officer of Family and a children services Mimi Tarrasch says Oklahoma has one of the highest rates for women in incarceration. Tarrasch says WIR has been part of the solution contributing to a decrease of women entering prison over 50%
