FOX23 Investigation: Fighting financial exploitation of the elderly

Quick Facts:

  • Adult Protective Services inside of the State Department of Human Services is no longer fully investigating financial exploitation because of budget cuts.
  • The burden shifted to local law enforcement.
  • Since the change Tulsa police told FOX23 their alleged crimes against seniors are up more than double from 183 in 2014 to more than 400 in 2016.
  • The Department of Human Services said they need the state to fund Adult Protective services to the same level as child protection.
  • The state only has 3 investigators looking into elder abuse at long term care facilities across Oklahoma.
