DALLAS, Texas — A former University of Oklahoma (OU) football player was shot and killed in Dallas on Thursday.
Dallas police said 25-year-old Du’Vonta Lampkin was found lying on his back with a gunshot wound around 10:10 p.m. on South Ervay Street. He died at the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined when Lampkin was not answering phone calls, a person went to check on him, found him injured and called for help.
Police said the death was the result of a homicide.

OU released a statement that said, “The OU Football family is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of former player Du’Vonta Lampkin. Du’Vonta was full of life and spirit, was a supportive teammate and a joy to be around. Our sincerest thoughts, prayers and sympathies are with his family and loved ones.”
According to Oklahoma Football’s website, Lampkin was a defensive tackle. He redshirted in 2015, and played in 2016 and 2017 for the Sooners. He was a four-star recruit out of high school in Texas.
