East Tulsa family wakes to explosion, house fire

Firefighters said the home may not be livable for a while

An east Tulsa family woke to an explosion at their home Friday morning near 31st and Garnett.

When they woke up around 7 a.m. to the blast, they found fire in the backyard near their chicken coops.

The family, including a teenager and some young children, escaped unharmed.

FOX23's Hector Mejia went live at the scene on Facebook after learning neighbors came outside to see what happened and to help their neighbors.

The flames spread up a wall and into the attic.

Investigators said the home will likely not be livable for a while.

The roof remained intact. Investigators will make sure the home is structurally sound.

The cause was an outside outlet.
