TULSA, Okla. — Ahead of the Independence Day holiday, the American Red Cross, FOX23, and 102.3 KRMG Tulsa’s News and Talk are asking residents to give blood at the annual Red, White and You Blood Drive, June 30 and July 1.
The Red Cross sees about a 21% decline in blood and platelet donations during holiday weeks, including Independence Day, according to the American Red Cross. When blood donations drop, so does the blood supply, making it extremely challenging to ensure blood is available when hospitals need it.
“Generous blood donors are critical to ensuring lifesaving care is available the moment patients need it. It’s important to have blood products on the shelves when every second counts,” said Alice Townsend, Regional CEO of the Red Cross of Kansas and Oklahoma.
The Red Cross is asking donors to do good things this summer!
