Danny Boy O’Connor dares to dive in with dangerous Bull Sharks at the Oklahoma Aquarium

JENKS, Okla. — Danny Boy O’Connor is known all over the world as a member of the 90′s hip-hop group, ‘House of Pain.’ He is also the founder of the Outsiders Museum in Tulsa, Okla.

Other facts about O’Connor that his fans may not know are, that he learned how to scuba dive in Tulsa during the pandemic and he also volunteers at the turtle exhibit at the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks.

Now O’Connor is about to venture into unchartered waters by submerging himself into a 380,000-gallon saltwater tank for a swim with the largest collection of bull sharks in the world at the Oklahoma Aquarium.

Bull sharks are “the most dangerous” sharks on the planet and have the strongest bite force of any other shark species, according to the Oklahoma Aquarium website. Sharks also attack less than 20 people per year, and fewer than ten of those attacks result in fatalities.

O’Connor will only be wearing a wet suit and a chain mail glove for the dive.

“I’d be lying if I told you there wasn’t a little apprehension,” said O’Connor. “But I think it’s a healthy fear that I’ll always have of anything that’s stronger and faster than me, especially when it comes to sharks. And then I’m also of the generation that saw the movie Jaws on its theatrical release and was scared to get in the bath. I’m just trying to overcome some fear and also take advantage of a wonderful opportunity which is a part of the Oklahoma Aquarium.”

O’Connor’s diving in without a cage at 4 p.m. tomorrow to kick off the “Dive with the Bull Sharks” contest. Anyone in the world can enter for their chance to travel to Jenks and also dive in with the sharks too.

O’Connor encourages everyone to visit the Oklahoma Aquarium.

“I’m going to tell you if you haven’t seen this aquarium and these exhibits, you’re missing out. This is an incredible place and I had no idea that something like this existed, much less here in Tulsa, so why not jump in and live dangerously with the sharks? Show everybody that they’re not as bad as they look, and just in case I brought my chain mail to protect me against any bites,” said O’Connor. “So I’m a little nervous, but I’m also very excited.”
