Child shot during possible celebratory gunfire at Freedom Fest

A child was shot and injured.

TULSA, Okla. — Quick Facts:

  • Around 10 p.m., a child at Freedom Fest said something hit his head
  • At the hospital, doctors confirmed he had been shot
  • The child was stable; officers believe he was hit during celebratory gunfire

Tulsa police began investigating a shooting reported Monday night at Freedom Fest.

Investigators said a 9-year-old child complained to his parents around 10 p.m. of something hitting his head.

When they got to the hospital, doctors realized the child was shot. He was stabilized, and doctors said they will remove the bullet later.

Police confirmed they opened a preliminary investigation. Investigators do not know who fired the gunshots, but believe the child was hit during celebratory gunfire.

Police told FOX23 they would release more information later Tuesday.

FOX23 talked to Freedomfest organizers about security and possible changes, they gave us this statement:

These organizations create an emergency response plan and then handle any issues that may occur.
