TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - A large fire Wednesday morning damaged several Tahlequah businesses in a shopping center.

It started after midnight near 4th and Muskogee. Officials said the fire burned until around 6 a.m.

Firefighters said the response was challenging because the building is so old, but some businesses had moved in and built new walls. It made it challenging to get to certain areas.

Several businesses had to close Wednesday and a few of them suffered a complete loss.

Only about a quarter of the shopping center has fire damage, but the majority has smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
