MINNEAPOLIS — Virginia defeated Texas Tech 85-77 in overtime late Monday to win the NCAA men’s basketball championship.
The victory marked Virginia’s first-ever men’s basketball championship win and a striking comeback for the Cavaliers after last year’s tournament, where the top-ranked team lost to a No. 16 seed.
Virginia guard Kyle Guy, who scored 24 points against the Red Raiders in Monday’s title game, was named the Final Four’s most outstanding player.
Fans, teams and public figures, including President Donald Trump, took to social media to congratulate the Cavs on their win.
