BIXBY, Okla. — Quick Facts:
- Bixby church struck by lightning Sunday.
- Staff estimate at least $20,000 in damage.
- Members call it a miracle that it didn't start a fire or do anymore damage to the building.
Lightning struck a Bixby church early Sunday morning when four tornadoes hit Green Country.
Staff at Holy Apostles Orthodox Christian Church said lightning struck a cross, went through a dome and traveled into the chapel.
The Rev. Ambrose Arrington called it a miracle that the strike didn't cause any additional damage or start a fire.
Sunday service began late after members cleaned up the mess the storm left behind.
Insurance claims are underway and Arrington estimates they've got to deal with at least $20,000 in damage. That estimate is only for the dome and hand-painted image of Jesus Christ underneath it.
