Ben Walnick was born in California, but his family moved to the Dallas Fort Worth area where he stayed through high school.

Early on, he discovered his passion for weather.

Although he grew up a Texas Longhorn fan, a visit to the University of Oklahoma and the meteorology school there turned him to the Crimson and Cream very quickly.

Ben attended OU and earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology with minors in Mathematics and Broadcast Journalism. During his college years, he interned at KXAS in Fort Worth where he met James Aydelott.

When not studying, attending OU football games, or working, you could probably find Ben chasing tornadoes on the rural roads of the southern plains. He has seen over a dozen tornadoes in his chasing career.

After Ben graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2009, he worked at TV stations in Wichita Falls, TX and Waco, TX. He has forecasted and seen everything from record breaking heat and drought to blizzards and tornadoes.

Ben is a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds Certification in Broadcast Meteorology. In his free time, you may find him hacking it up on the golf course, watching sports or eating popcorn at the movies.
