John Boyer joined the FOX23 Severe Weather Team in 2013. In 2012, he received the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society. John earned his degree in meteorology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh.
At N.C. State, John took advantage of every chance to get involved with broadcasting: behind the microphone at WKNC-FM, in front of the cameras at UNC’s “Carolina Week” and even painting the green screen for NCSU Weather. His television career officially started behind the scenes at WSLS in Roanoke. John interned at WRAL in Raleigh while studying at N.C. State and helped cover North Carolina’s most active tornado outbreak. That experience reinforced his commitment to clear and responsible breaking weather coverage. After college, he covered weather for the Heart of Georgia at 13WMAZ Eyewitness News.
John hails from Roanoke, Virginia. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains aren’t a tornado hotbed, but frequent winter storms sparked John’s interest in weather. John enjoys the challenge of forecasting Oklahoma’s extreme weather alongside James and the severe weather team. John likes exploring everything Green Country has to offer, so say hello if he passes through your hometown!
You can catch John’s forecasts on FOX23 News at 9 on Saturdays and Sundays and throughout the week during FOX23 Live Severe Weather Team Coverage.
