• Union outlasts Jenks in Backyard Bowl

    Fears by some experts and area football fans that the 14th annual MidFirst Bank Backyard Bowl wouldn’t be competitive or live up to the event’s tradition proved to be totally unfounded.

    But after arguably the wildest first half in series history and eight lead changes, heavily favored Union pulled away in the final four minutes for a 59-40 victory over Jenks before 11,917 fans — the smallest crowd of the 12 Backyard Bowls played at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
