New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dray Joseph connected with Less Doss for three touchdown passes as Southern University beat rival Grambling State, 40-17, in the Bayou Classic at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Saturday.
Doss, Southern's game MVP, caught touchdowns of 17 and 30 yards in the second quarter and a 27-yarder in the fourth quarter. He hauled in six passes for 117 yards and surpassed 1,000 yards for the season.
Joseph completed 15-of-26 pass attempts for 226 yards with one interception.
The Jaguars took a 31-30 overall series lead and tied the Bayou Classic series at 20-20.
Southern's season isn't over. The Jaguars (8-4) will face Jackson State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Game next Saturday at Houston's Reliant Stadium.
Grambling's season, on the other hand, is over at 1-11 and will be remembered by its six-day player walkout and a forfeited game against Jackson State earlier this season. Dennis "Dirt" Winston finished up the season as the team's interim coach.
Doug Williams, who began the season as Grambling's head coach before being fired by the university, attended the Bayou Classic and watched mostly by himself from a press box seat.
Johnathan Williams was Grambling's game MVP. He threw two touchdown passes.
