Sooners visit Red Raiders in Big 12 tussle

Lubbock, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The 25th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners take aim at a third straight victory on Saturday, as they take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Big 12 Conference action at United Spirit Arena.

Oklahoma has won three of its last four games, including triumphs over Baylor (66-64) and TCU (77-69) in the last two. The Sooners are now 15-4 overall, which includes a 4-2 mark in conference play. They will return home for a major test against in-state rival Oklahoma State next.

As for Texas Tech, it has dropped four of its last six contests to fall to 10-9 overall and 2-4 against conference foes. The Red Raiders have gone 8-3 on their home floor, but they will travel to take on Kansas State in their next outing.

A year ago, Oklahoma swept the season series with Texas Tech. The Sooners have won four of the last six meetings, and lead the all-time series by a 33-20 margin.

Ryan Spangler posted a double-double consisting of 13 points and 16 rebounds, as five players scored in double figures in Oklahoma's win over TCU. The Sooners were outscored 24-19 off of turnovers, but held scoring advantages from beyond the arc (24-15) and at the free-throw line (17-14).

The Sooners are lighting up the scoreboard with regularity this season, ranking third in the Big 12 (84.3 ppg), while shooting a respectable 45.3 percent from the floor. Every starter is averaging in double figures for OU, led by Cameron Clark (17 ppg, 5.89 rpg) and Buddy Hield (16.6 ppg). Spangler (11.3 ppg, 9.8 rpg) leads the conference in rebounding and is also shooting the second-best percentage from the field (.653). Jordan Woodard (10.8 ppg) and Isaiah Cousins (10.6 ppg, 4.5 apg) are also solid scorers, but the team has very little in terms of depth.

Despite a mammoth effort from Dusty Hannahs, who sank all seven of his attempts from 3-point range and scored 25 points to go with six assists, the Red Raiders fell to West Virginia, 87-81, last time out. Texas Tech allowed the Mountaineers to shoot 53.7 percent from the floor in the losing effort.

The Red Raiders are not keeping up with Oklahoma offensively. They are scoring only 73.8 ppg, which ranks eighth in the league. Texas Tech is limiting the opposition to 69.6 ppg and 42.8 percent from the field. Jaye Crockett (14.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg) is the leader on the unit. topping the team in scoring and ranking second in rebounding, while knocking down 56.2 percent of his attempts from the floor. Jordan Tolbert (11.9 ppg, 6.5 rpg) leads in rebounds and connects on 58.4 percent from the floor. Robert Turner (10.2 ppg) is the third and final member of the team averaging in double figures.
