Tulsa - His kids call him Mr. Blake, but his fans call him “Boom Boom:” karate instructor by day, professional kickboxer by night
“He’s one of the baddest guys on the planet," said Dale "Apollo" Cook, owner of Apollo's Karate. "But he’s such a sweetheart of a guy. You’d never think he could be a killer in the ring, but trust me, he takes care of business”
Randy Blake is the reigning World Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion, but he only fights about 4 times a year. The rest of the time, you can find him at Apollo’s Karate in Tulsa, but keeping a low profile isn’t always easy.
“'Hey Mr. Blake, I seen you on a commercial. You kicked a guy right in his ear,'" said Blake impersonating one of his students. "Yeah, that’s me, but don’t go to school doing that.”
Just like the kids he teaches, Blake got started at Apollo’s and years of dedication and hard work have led to this friday night, maybe his toughest challenge ever: Xtreme Fight Night 11 at the Hard Rock Casino, but instead of fighting just one guy, he’ll have to beat three!
“This would be the best wins," said Blake. "It’s not just one fight, it's potentially 27 minutes, all that in one night, and that would be hard to top.”
The one thing on his side is the home town crowd...now if only he could get them in to see it.
“So many kids will ask, can you get me a fake ID?” Blake joked.
A win this friday, and "Boom Boom’s" legend grows bigger, but no matter what happens, Mr. Blake will always be the best to kids he teaches.
