New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson and New York Jets cornerback Dee Milliner were named the NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Month for December on Thursday.
Patterson, a first-round selection (No. 29 overall) out of Tennessee, scored six touchdowns during the month, the most by a rookie and tied for the third- most by any player. He had 16 catches for 219 yards with three touchdowns and rushed 10 times for 156 yards with three touchdowns. He also returned 11 kickoffs for 305 yards (27.7 average).
Patterson became the first rookie to score at least three rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns in a calendar month since Roger Craig in December 1983.
Patterson had four receiving touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns and two kickoff-return scores this season, becoming the only player in NFL history to accomplish the feat.
Milliner, a first-round selection (No. 9) out of Alabama, had 28 tackles, three interceptions and 13 passes defensed in December.
After a slow start to his career, Milliner started all five games for the Jets in December.
In Week 17, Milliner recorded four tackles, two interceptions and five passes defensed in the Jets' 20-7 win at Miami. Milliner's two interceptions tied for the most in the NFL in Week 17.
Milliner finished his rookie campaign with 56 tackles, three interceptions and 17 passes defensed.
This was the second straight month that a Jet was named defensive rookie of the month, as Sheldon Richardson earned the honor in November.
