FAR HILLS, N.J. –Oklahoma State’s Jordan Niebrugge capped his remarkable summer on Sunday as one of the final five selections for the United States Walker Cup squad. The second half of the team was announced today by the United States Golf Association after a recommendation by its International Team Selection Committee.
“I am excited for this opportunity to represent my country and this is obviously a great way to cap off an unforgettable summer of golf,” Niebrugge said. “I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the support over the past several weeks.”
Niebrugge’s selection marks the 25th time a Cowboy has been chosen for the event.
Nathan Smith, Michael Weaver, Todd White and Bobby Wyatt joined the rising OSU sophomore as the final five selections for the squad. They will team with Max Homa, Michael Kim, Patrick Rodgers, Justin Thomas and Cory Whitsett to comprise this year’s American squad.
The 44th Walker Cup Match against Great Britain and Ireland is scheduled for Sept. 7-8 at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, N.Y.
Niebrugge earned honorable mention All-America honors in his first season for the Cowboys. The Mequon, Wis., native notched a pair of runner-up finishes during the collegiate season before turning his attention to his summer schedule.
After starting the summer with a win at the Wisconsin State Match Play Championship, Niebrugge added a USGA title with his victory at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. He followed with a win at the 2013 Wisconsin State Amateur before completing his run with his triumph at the Western Amateur Championship.
He also tied for 11th at the Sunnehanna Amateur and most recently advanced to thematch play portion of the U.S. Amateur Championship.
