Chuck Liddell is actually very approachable. Maybe he wasn't pre-fight back in his UFC days, but during his appearance at the Hard Rock his accessibility made him a solid host for the Xtreme Fight Night event.
There was a point when I asked Chuck if casual drinking was part of the hosting obligations. He said it wasn't an obligation but it was allowed, then he gave me a wink. The biggest laugh of the night, and I knew it probably wouldn't make the cut in the interview.
I learned a long time ago that you're either funny or you try too hard. I think anyone can "be" funny, but those who do it effortlessly always seem to appeal the most to me. That's why self-depricating humor rules. What better situation for me to be self-depricating standing next to a fighter, a hall of fame fighter no less!
Note to Billy Crystal, the vaudeville style song and dance routine was funny….before I was born.
