Talk about a good day to be a Cowboy. OSU fans are rejoicing after basketball players Marcus Smart, Le'Bryan Nash, and Markel Brown all announced they're saying no to the NBA draft to stay another season in Stillwater. The result: Oklahoma State is now the Big 12 preseason favorite.
The biggest catch of the trio, of course, is Marcus Smart. The Big 12 player of the year and the national freshman of the year was projected to be a top five pick in the draft, possibly as high as number one overall. His decision to stay in Stillwater was a shock to some. It shouldn't have been. There's no doubt most people would have jumped at the millions, me included. Smart is apparently wired differently, and it was no secret he wasn't automatically bolting for the NBA. He made that clear multiple times--in his postgame interview after the season-ending loss to Oregon, on Twitter back on April 5, Monday night at the banquet to accept his national freshman of the year trophy, and now in front of packed house at the OSU Student Union.
Now that the announcement has been made and the cheering has died down, it's time for the trio and the rest of the Cowboys to get to work to live up to the expectations, and those expectations are large. Big 12 champs. Final Four. National title. Those are all things on the wishlist for Cowboy nation. One very good day down for the Pokes. Hopefully for Smart, Nash, and Brown, not the last.
