OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Former University of Oklahoma linebacker Rod Shoate has been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.

The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame announced Tuesday the selection of 12 former players and two former coaches to the hall.

Shoate was a two-time All-American at OU during the 1970s. The Sooners went 10-0-1 and 11-0 during his final two seasons and he becomes the 20th former Sooner elected to the college hall.

He was a second round draft pick of the New England Patriots in 1975 and played six seasons in the NFL and two more in the USFL. He died in 1999.
