STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma State has been known for its prolific offense under coach Mike Gundy. Now defensive tackle Calvin Barnett and cornerback Justin Gilbert are eager to change that perception.

The continued development of seniors Barnett and Gilbert could be the biggest key for the Cowboys' hopes for this year after they finished 8-5 last season and ranked sixth out of the 10 Big 12 schools in total defense. Glenn Spencer takes over as defensive coordinator, and Barnett is looking forward to a more aggressive approach.

Barnett and Gilbert made the preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation's top player on defense. Barnett also is a candidate for the Chuck Bednarik Award for best defensive player and the Outland Trophy for best interior lineman.
