College basketball’s popularity has waned in recent years here in the Sooner state. Blame the Thunder if you want (and that’s definitely a contributing factor), but subpar basketball from our college teams deserves the most blame. Hopefully, the days of subpar hoops in Oklahoma are over.
The 2012-13 season was a welcome change. Gone are the days of no local teams making the NCAA Tournament. OSU and OU made it back to the Big Dance. The Cowboys were exciting and fun to watch with one of the most exciting and fun to watch players in college basketball. OSU fans owe a big thank you to Marcus Smart and the ‘Boys. The Sooners surprised many with their return to the NCAA Tournament. OU was a well-coached, hard-working team, and it was good to see.
TU and ORU missed out on the Big Dance but did do a little postseason dancing. The Golden Hurricane played in the CBI, and the Golden Eagles played in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. TU seems to be headed in the right direction one season into the Danny Manning era. ORU played its best ball at the end of the season and hopefully will carry that momentum into next season.
College basketball has waned in Oklahoma in recent years. Here’s hoping this season was the start of its return.
